Why should I service my gas or oil Boiler
As with all heating appliances, your gas or oil boiler needs to be serviced once a year, as recommended by the manufacturers, to ensure that it is operating efficiently and safely. An efficient boiler is more environmental friendly leading to lower gas consumption, therfore lowering your bills.
The safety aspect is even more critical as a regularly serviced boiler will operate safely i.e. the gas or oil will burn correctly, reducing the risk of emmissions of poisonous Carbon Monoxide and / or production of sooth.
Who should service my gas Boiler
It is illegal for anybody other than a Registered Gas Installer to service your boiler.
Your gas boiler should only be serviced by a Registered Gas Installer (RGI) as he/she will have the required competency and experience to deal with the servicing, repair and setup of gas appliances. The RGI will aslo check if the boiler is correctly installed and operating in a suitable environment

Your Oil boiler should only be serviced by a Registered Oftech Engineer as he/she will have the required competency and experience to deal with the servicing, repair and setup of your oil fired boiler, the efficiency and safety of your boiler will depend on the level of service and a properly serviced oil boiler can save up to 30% on fuel bills per year
Landlords
Standards for Rented Houses
All Gas Boilers should be serviced annually. A boiler service is the best way to ensure it works safely and efficiently. It guards against increased heating costs and reduces the possibility of breakdown.
Landlords have a responsibility under Statutory Instrument SI.534 of 2008 Housing (Standards for Rented Houses) Regulations 2008 to ensure that the gas installation in the house or apartment shall be maintained in good repair and safe working order. The Technical Guidance Document in relation to this Regulation states that a current Declaration of Conformance certificate for an IS.813 Annex E inspection issued by a Registered Gas Installer for the gas installation in the house or apartment will prove compliance with the regulations.
